How many expats voted between 2018 and 2022?

The countdown to the 15th of May has begun, with the completion of the first and second stages of the election of Lebanese expatriates distributed across the world.

In this analysis, we will compare the number of Lebanese expats who voted in 2018 to this year.
In 2018, there were 82,965 people registered to vote from overseas.
46,799 persons voted, with 56.4% of all votes, although being just 2.5% of all voters.
This election has 225,000 registered voters. Approximately 130,000 Lebanese expatriates voted. That is 60% of the total.

Thus, expatriate voting has increased by 3.6% compared to the 2018 elections.
According to an Arab Reform Initiative survey, in 2018, 6% of voters abroad picked candidates from alternative lists, while 94% chose candidates from conventional political parties.

In this election, the proportion might be flipped, favoring the opposition lists.

The ballot boxes began to arrive in Lebanon one by one, to be stored in the Banque du Liban until they are processed later on May 15th.

So, dear residents, do not forget regular power outages, shortages of medication and water, hunger, and poverty. Stand up for your rights, fulfill your duty, vote!
