If priorities are not rearranged … we will witness a major crime against humanity

People with Down’s syndrome face greater risks from infection with the Corona virus, and studies have found that those who suffer from the syndrome are 10 times more likely to die from Corona compared to those without it, while the probability of admission to hospital as a result of complications of the virus is four times more than others. Among more than eight million people included in the study, more than four thousand had Down syndrome, among who, 40 percent died from Corona.

Mona Youssef Abu Aoun, a specialist in bacterial and infectious diseases, told the correspondent of “Voice of Beirut International,” Ghassan Farran. At the age of forty, it is equivalent to seventy years, and the extra chromosome in their body weakens their immunity and causes congenital problems in the heart, and some of them suffer from diabetes. ”She stressed that“ they have the right to get the vaccine as soon as possible, whether they are in Lebanon or abroad. ”

The data concluded by the research urges the priority of administering the vaccine to those suffering from Down syndrome. Will the vaccination priorities in Lebanon be modified so that they become  at the forefront after they were placed in the late stages
