Today, two legal developments came to the fore. The first was represented by Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, who referred the proposed judicial independence statute to the Administration and Justice Committee for assessment by the Supreme Judicial Council.
The second is a state litigation complaint brought by MPs Ali Hassan Khalil and Ghazi Zeaiter against Judge Naji Eid, President of the Court of Cassation’s First Chamber, who considered the complaint stipulating the dismissal of the judicial investigator into the Beirut Port Blast, Judge Tarek Bitar.
Lawyer Saeed Malik, a constitutional and legal expert, joined us by phone to throw light on these judicial files.
