Two strange events in one day. The first is the lack of a quorum for the Finance, Budget, Administration and Justice Committees to discuss the Capital Control issue. What is remarkable is that the result was not surprising, even for the most eager to hold the session, meaning Presidents Nabih Berri and Najib Mikati. Nevertheless, the presidents of the Council and the government insisted on the session, which raises more than one question mark.
Is this intended to give the Lebanese authorities an acquittal before the international community? Is what happened since the beginning of the launch of Capital Control until today a charade, nothing more, nothing less? It is possible, especially since our officials are proficient in all kinds of acting. Acting is a bit of deception, and the staff of the system are very successful in all deceptions. The second surprising thing is that the Council of Ministers decided to form a ministerial committee tasked with preparing a draft law aimed at establishing the North Development Council. Why did the Lebanese officials wait for the humanitarian catastrophe in the sea of Tripoli to move and think of the North Development Council? Why is our judgment always based on the reaction and not on the action?
Will the reactions build a homeland and strengthen a state? For all these reasons, dear Lebanese, your country needs you, and the electoral duty is calling you. Participate extensively in the elections, as “your votes are our legitimate weapon to stay.”
