Middle class fading as poverty rate hits 80% in Lebanon

The middle class is the target of freefall. With the collapse of the local currency, the erosion of the purchasing power of basic commodities such as food, water, fuel, and medicine, as well as health care services, education, and others… this class is rapidly fading, as more than 80% of the population in Lebanon lives below the poverty line, with 36% living in extreme poverty.

So, why should we worry about the position of the middle class in a nation where the poverty rate has above 80%? What role does the middle class play in economic growth?

In short, the Lebanese have two choices: migrate in pursuit of a better life for those who have found a way, or submit to the status quo and attempt to manage with these conditions while expecting relief, or a lingering death.
