Russia open to dialogue on nuclear non-proliferation, Putin says

Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that Moscow is willing to engage in discussions about strategic stability and nuclear non-proliferation.

Putin justified the invasion of Ukraine by claiming that it was necessary to defend ethnic Russians and Russian speakers in the Donbass area from persecution, accusing Ukraine of “crimes against humanity.”

Despite Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, both Moscow and Washington highlighted the significance of continuing nuclear-weapons ties. The two nations are the world’s two greatest nuclear powers, with around 11,000 nuclear weapons between them.
