After severe winds triggered the collapse of electricity and trees in the northwest of the state, the mountains of the Australian state of Tasmania were slammed by a shattering snowfall, trapping surrounding locals in their houses and disrupting power to thousands of households.

Officials in eastern Australia warned of the risks of surfing and asked that the iconic Bondi beach be closed after it was carried away by massive waves caused by wind power.
