Teenage pilot starts solo around-the-world journey

A Belgian-British teenage pilot hopes to join his sister in the record books after starting his attempt to become the youngest person to fly around the world solo in a small plane on Wednesday.

Mack Rutherford, aged 16 years took off on his adventure from Bulgaria, on a Shark plane, which is one of the fastest lightweight aircraft in the world with a cruising speed of 300 kilometers per hour.

In order to break the record, he must visit during his trip which is likely to last for five month 52 countries on 5 continents. It is noteworthy that his sister became, two months ago, the youngest female pilot to travel the world alone, at the age of nineteen, on the same plane.
