Minister of Telecommunications Johnny Corm stated that it has become evident that the telecoms business cannot survive unless the tariff is adjusted.
He told Sawt Beirut International that the current plan is to reduce the value of the “Alfa” and “Touch” bills by one-third and calculate them in dollars based on the platform’s exchange rate, and that the issuance of recharge cards at four dollars and seven dollars based on the exchange platform is under study, indicating that this plan will be on the agenda for next week’s session.
During today’s legislative session, the Parliament adopted the competition law with a single item. Nabih Berri, the Council Chairman, stated that Lebanon is the only nation in the world with exclusive agencies, emphasizing that Article No. 36 of the Association Agreement with the European Union necessitates the removal of exclusive agencies.
