Terrorist Salim Ayyash, first suspect in Rafik Hariri’s assassination, still free

On December 11, 2020, eleven years after the launch of its investigation into the assassination of the late Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, the Special Tribunal for Lebanon issued a verdict in which it convicted the terrorist Salim Amin Ayyash, and decided that Ayyash was guilty and an accomplice in the Hariri assassination.

According to the arrest warrant issued by the court, Ayyash is a military official in Hezbollah and the first responsible for the cell that carried out the assassination.

In 2012, the US Department of State’s Rewards for Justice Program, allocated a reward of $10 million in exchange for information on Ayyash’s whereabouts or identity. on February 14 of this year, the Ministry published a statement reminding of the reward.

As for the Secretary-General of Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, he had previously described the accused in Hariri’s assassination as saints, and that he would not accept their extradition, neither today nor after a hundred days.

As far as the judiciary and security are concerned, they have not yet been able to reach Ayyash and arrest him, due to several reasons, including Hezbollah’s control of all the components of the state.

So, on the seventeenth anniversary of his assassination, the murderer of the martyr Rafik Hariri and his companions, is still free and moving around at the sight of the state and the security services.
