A post for the noted virologist Luc Montagnier claiming that all people who have been vaccinated against Covid-19 will die within two years, has went viral lately creating a buzz on social media channels. Nobel Laureate Montagnier has claimed that people who received Covid-19 vaccines from any brand have no chance to survive.
In this context, Adviser to the Caretaker Prime Minister for health matters Dr. Petra Khoury, said in an interview with “Tony Khalifa” program broadcasted on Sawt Beirut International (SBI), that Montagnier has based his expectations on an old experience that occurred in the past, however his expectation sent waves of fear among people.
Khoury said that Montagnier’s expectations are not based on a scientific theory, that’s why I call on all people to take the vaccine. If it was dangerous and harmful we would not have prioritized administrating vaccines to the medical staff, who is responsible for treating the public. She added, the vaccine is effective and safe.
On a question whether the rate of local Covid-19 infections have dropped due to the vaccine rollout, or due to the time that have passed, Khoury said that the rate of infections have dropped as a result of the protective measures and restrictions taken during the months of January, February and March, to control the outbreaks and curb the spread of the virus. These measures were accompanied by a vaccination campaign for inoculating the elderly, additionally the community has gained immunity due to the large number of infections witnessed early this year.
Khoury said that hospitals are currently closing covid-19 units, which indicated that the number of infections are nosediving. She affirmed that the viruses’ ferocity didn’t decrease, and the evidence is what happening in India. However, the immunity that people have gained either through carrying the virus or through the vaccine, have brought us to this better stage.
