World Bank lends Lebanon to buy wheat… the citizen scrounges his loaf

In a precedent that Lebanon has never witnessed, the Lebanese state was forced to borrow to feed its citizens, as it borrowed from the World Bank one hundred and fifty million dollars to buy wheat and maintain the price of a bundle of bread. Although the collapse has reached this depth, the Minister of Economy sees borrowing from the World Bank with the aim of financing food needs, as happy and reassuring news, but it actually indicates concern about the course of the crisis and its management.
