A Turkish aircraft company revealed the development of a new version of its Simsek drones, to carry kamikaze suicide drones.
The site “The Drive “, which is concerned with defense and military affairs, says that the attack version of Simsek makes it one of a new generation of weapons that have been developed to bomb the target by other unmanned aerial vehicles.
The general manager of the Turkish company “Tay”, which specializes in the manufacture of aircraft, Temel Kotel, revealed for the first time the “Kamikaze” drones, last month, in an interview with CNN Turk, according to “The Drive” website.
“It can carry five kilograms of explosives, and it can fly 100-200 kilometers when launched from an unmanned aircraft. We produce 100 Simsek drones annually,” he said.
Since 2009, the Simsek has been developed to test the capabilities of ground and sea air defense systems, as well as air-to-air missiles launched from manned combat aircraft.
The Simsek can fly at speeds of 740 km / h, and operate at altitudes of up to 15,000 feet (exceeding 4,000 km).
And like many other drones, the Simsek’s design is based on a catapult launch system, which can also be installed on ships.
Since last year, these drones have been integrated with the Anka drone of the Turkish Aerospace Industries, which has proven its combat merit. It is flying at a medium altitude, and is very similar to the US MQ-1 Predator, according to the “Drive” website.
The site believes that launching a kamikaze from the Simsek, similar to Anka, increases its ability to attack targets in a greater range of confrontation.
