A U.S. military officer told Reuters that during an attack early on Friday, about seven mortar rounds fell in the U.S. Embassy compound in Baghdad, revealing a much greater attack than previously acknowledged.

Speaking under anonymity, the official left open the possibility that additional missiles were launched against the embassy compound but missed it.

The official stated there were no injuries and only very minimal damage from the strike.
