Renaissance Dam
The head of the Transitional Council in Sudan, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, confirmed to the US envoy, Jeffrey Feltman, Khartoum’s adherence to rejecting the second filling of the lake of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.
The US Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, Jeffrey Feltman, held a meeting in Khartoum with the Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, in which they discussed relations between Khartoum and Washington.
Al-Hurra correspondent reported that Al-Burhan explained his country’s position on the Renaissance Dam file, stressing that he adopts a firm position regarding a negotiated solution to the differences between the parties involved in the file.
During the meeting, Al-Burhan stressed the need to reach an agreement between the three countries on issues of filling and employment, rejecting at the same time Ethiopia’s second filling of the Renaissance Dam lake, individually.
The two sides also addressed a number of regional issues, as Feltman stressed that the United States attaches importance to Sudan, the Horn of Africa, and the security of the Red Sea, calling on the Sudanese government to stand with him and make his mission successful.
For his part, Al-Burhan stressed the need for joint cooperation and coordination between his country and the United States, especially in the major issues that need international and regional coordination in order to maintain international peace and security.
On Friday, Feltman visited Khartoum, in the latest leg of his tour in the region, which aims to resolve the decade-long conflict over a huge dam that Ethiopia is building on the main tributary of the Nile River.
