Argentina’s economy superminister appoints top advisers

Argentina’s new economics minister named his top advisers on Monday, aiming to halt soaring inflation and the South American country’s economic downturn.

Sergio Massa named Eduardo Setti, an economist with capital market experience, as finance secretary, and the seasoned Daniel Marx would be part of the public debt monitoring team. The Treasury Secretary will be Raul Rigo.

The decision comes only days after Massa was nominated to manage the new Ministry of Economy, Manufacturing, and Agriculture. It was established by the government to combat rising inflation, a crippling budget deficit, and a currency at historic lows versus the US dollar.

Argentina owes the Fund $44 billion and is renegotiating $2 billion in outstanding debt with the Club of Paris, an informal organization of creditor countries that seeks methods to repay countries in financial distress.
