The Gulf state of Bahrain has approved the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use in children aged 5 to 11, according to the government media office on Tuesday.
The decision was made after a study involving 3,100 children aged 5 to 11 who were given the vaccine found it to be 90.7 percent effective in that age group, according to the statement, which cited the National Health Regulatory Authority.
According to the study, none of the children who took part in it experienced any serious side effects.
Bahrain will receive doses from the manufacturer for children aged 5 to 11, beginning in early 2022, according to the statement.
