Jamal Bin Zekri, General Supervisor of the African Dignity founding symposium, called for Morocco to no longer hold the presidency of the Jerusalem Committee as a result of its peace deal with the occupation state of Israel.
“The founding symposium is working to achieve the demand of withdrawing the presidency of the Jerusalem Committee from the Makhzen, due to the regime’s fall into the cycle of humiliating normalisation with the Zionist entity,” Bin Zekri said in a statement.
The Makhzen is the term used to describe the governing institution in Morocco.
The statement said the Makhzen has sought to disrupt the Jerusalem Committee’s activity from 2002 until 2014, giving Israel a chance to implement its destructive and criminal projects and schemes against the Palestinian people and the holy city of Jerusalem.
“Despite denouncing statements, protests and calls for intervention and despite its chairmanship of the Jerusalem Committee, the Makhzen regime did not move to prevent the desecration of Jerusalem,” the statement said.
The founding symposium on African Dignity called on friendly countries and supporters of the Palestinian cause to move urgently at the level of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to achieve this demand, and to relocate the Committee’s headquarters from Morocco.
Rabat agreed to normalise ties with Israel in December last year in return for the US’ recognition of its sovereignty over the Western Sahara region.
