According to Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk, civilians will begin leaving the besieged Ukrainian city of Sumy on Tuesday as part of a deal with Russia to build a “humanitarian corridor.”
“It has been agreed that the first convoy would depart from Sumy at 10 a.m. (0800 GMT).” In a televised announcement, she stated, “The convoy will be followed by the local community in personal vehicles.”
Since Russian troops invaded Ukraine on February 24, civilians have been besieged by conflict. Russia’s actions in Ukraine are referred to as a “special military operation” by Moscow.
On Tuesday, Russian news media claimed that Russia offered providing residents of Sumy, in northeastern Ukraine, and Mariupol, a southern port city, the option of relocating elsewhere in Ukraine.
