Amazon founder Jeff Bezos says he realized the fragility of nature when he traveled into space, and he has now pledged $2 billion (£1.5 billion) to restore it.
The Bezos Earth Fund funds will be used to restore landscapes and transform food systems, he announced at the COP26 climate conference in Glasgow.
“Nature is already shifting from a carbon sink to a carbon source in far too many parts of the world,” he said.
The fund intends to spend $10 billion fighting climate change in total.
The founder of the world’s largest online retailer described his July trip on his rocket ship, New Shepard, as a revelation of Earth’s vulnerability in Glasgow.
“I was told that seeing Earth from space changes the lens through which you see the world, but I was not prepared for how much that would be true,” he said.
