Egyptian woman loses arm in shark attack near Dahab

A woman has lost an arm after being attacked by a shark while swimming near the Egyptian coastal city of Dahab, the Daily Mail reported on Thursday.

The victim was swimming with her friend in the Red Sea on Wednesday when the animal bit her left arm.

Other swimmers said they mistook the shark for a tuna.

The victim was unconscious when she was rescued from the sea and rushed to hospital, where she is reported to be in a stable condition.

Video footage of tourists fleeing Laguna Beach in the aftermath of the attack has been shared on social media. Following the incident, Egypt’s Ministry of Environment announced the closure of the popular beach resort.

The incident comes after a Russian man was killed by a tiger shark in June while swimming near the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Hurghada.

The attack on the 23-year old was captured in horrific detail in a viral video.
