Civilians stand near the burning wreckage of an Antonov-26 plane operated by Optimum Aviation
According to airport officials, a small cargo plane crashed shortly after takeoff from Juba Airport in South Sudan on Tuesday, killing five people.
According to Kur Koul, the airport’s director general, authorities have begun an investigation into the incident, which involved an Antonov-26 plane operated by Optimum Aviation, a local company.
The victims were all members of the plane’s crew, who were flying fuel drums to Maban county in Upper Nile State.
South Sudan, which has been ravaged by a decade-long conflict, lacks a reliable land transportation infrastructure, forcing some cargo to be transported by air.
