The Greek coast guard said that four migrants, including three children, perished after their boat capsized on Sunday off the island of Leros in the southeast Aegean Sea.
According to the migrants’ claims, they had traveled from Turkey, and the coast guard found a woman’s body and saved at least 39 others, the officer added.
The three kids passed away after being hospitalized, according to the coast guard. The migrants’ nationalities were not immediately known.
Along with Spain and Italy, Greece is one of the key entry points into the European Union for refugees and migrants from the Middle East, Africa and Asia.
Most asylum-seekers cross to Greece from neighbouring Turkey.
