Following the attack on a UNIFIL patrol in the town of Al-Aqibiya, which led to the death of an Irish soldier and the wounding of three others, France condemned the targeting of UNIFIL in southern Lebanon, and demanded an immediate investigation without hindrance.
In turn, the British ambassador to Lebanon, Hamish Cowell, tweeted: “I was shocked by the news of the attack on the Irish UNIFIL convoy. Our thoughts are with the families and friends of the peacekeeper who was tragically killed and injured.”
Cowell added, “The difficult and dangerous work that UNIFIL forces do day after day is vital to the security and stability of Lebanon. Those responsible must be held accountable.”
