French presidential candidate Marine Le Pen heckled by protesters in Guadeloupe

Marine Le Pen, a far-right presidential contender, was heckled by demonstrators in the French overseas region of Guadeloupe, who poured into a hotel where she was taping a television program, according to BFM TV.

Protesters screamed “out Le Pen” and “racist Le Pen” as they surrounded the candidate as she was escorted out of her room and through the hotel on Saturday.

Julien Odoul, her spokesman, informed Franceinfo that her campaign expects to submit a complaint.

“This is agitation from radical left-wing militants, local Black gangs that wreck everything,” he continued, alluding to an anti-fascist movement that was frequently blamed for violence during the yellow vest movement in France.

According to polls, Le Pen and President Emmanuel Macron are the most likely candidates to win the first round of the election on April 10 and advance to the run-off vote on April 24, with Macron expected to win.

During a campaign overshadowed by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the far-right leader has focused on local problems such as inflation and cost of living, while Macron has been involved in a flurry of diplomatic talks, including NATO, G7, and European summits last week.
