G20 finance chiefs make few policy breakthroughs at Indonesia meeting

At a two-day conference in Indonesia, the finance chiefs of the Group of 20 major nations promised to address global food shortages and mounting debt, but achieved few policy advances amid tensions over Russia’s war in Ukraine.

With questions mounting about the G20’s effectiveness in addressing the world’s major issues, U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said that while differences prevented finance ministers and central bankers from issuing a formal communique, the group had “strong consensus” on the need to address a worsening food security crisis.
