Berlin prosecutors stated on Monday that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’s remarks on the Holocaust during a visit last year were deemed as inciting racial hatred.
However, they won’t pursue a criminal case due to his diplomatic immunity.
The investigation was launched in August 2022 based on complaints accusing Abbas of “relativizing the Holocaust” during a joint press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
The prosecutor’s office concluded that Abbas committed the crime but is protected by immunity, even though his comments were a clear violation of German law.
