According to a government source, Germany is considering arming Ukraine with 2,700 anti-air missiles in order to protect itself against a Russian invasion.
The economy ministry had approved delivering the Soviet-made Strela missiles, which were part of the former German Democratic Republic’s army’s inventory, according to German news agency DPA.
According to Reuters, the action has still to be approved by the Federal Security Council. The source stated, “The missiles are ready to be transferred.”
This would be on top of Germany’s announcement on Saturday that it will equip Ukraine with 1,000 anti-tank weaponry and 500 Stinger surface-to-air missiles, in a policy shift following Russia’s invasion of its neighbor.
