German Chancellor Olaf Scholz spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin over the phone on Friday and urged Moscow to cease all military operations immediately, according to a German government official.

Scholz also urged Putin to enable humanitarian help into conflict zones, while the Russian president scheduled a third round of Russia-Ukraine talks this weekend, according to a government official.

The leaders decided to conduct more talks shortly during the one-hour meeting, according to the spokeswoman.
