Iraq to sign contract with Pfizer for additional COVID-19 Vaccines

Iraq is seeking to sign a contract for additional coronavirus vaccines from Pfizer, a Ministry of Health official has revealed.

Director of the Public Health Department Riyad al-Half said that the Ministry wants to sign a contract with Pfizer for an extra 3 million doses to bring the total to 6 million.

So far, 215,801 people have been vaccinated in Iraq since March.

Iraq has received Pfizer, AstraZeneca and Sinopharm vaccines, and expects to be delivered more doses on a weekly basis.

The Ministry reported on Saturday 6,188 new coronavirus cases, raising the total infections to 977,175.

It also reported 33 new deaths, raising the death toll to 14,981, while the total recoveries climbed by 6,814 to 856,532.

A total of 8,805,486 tests have been carried out across the country since the outbreak of the disease in February 2020.

The Ministry said that 10,308 people were vaccinated in the past 24 hours across the country.
