Israel bombs Gaza for third night running

For the third day on a row, Israel has bombed the Gaza Strip, allegedly in response to rocket fire from the Palestinian territory. According to Wafa, Israeli aircraft bombed a “Hamas site” to the east of Beit Lahiya in the north of Gaza, causing a fire and destroying the target as well as nearby homes.

The Israelis also bombed a site to the west of Deir Al-Balah in the middle are of the territory, as well as a site to the east of Rafah in the south. Again, the targets are reported to have been destroyed, and adjoining properties have been damaged. There were no reports of any casualties.

The so-called Israel Defence Forces confirmed the attacks. “The IDF will continue to respond to terror [sic] efforts from the Gaza Strip,” it said.

The Palestinians have a legitimate right to resist Israel’s military occupation with whatever means are at their disposal. Rockets fired from the Gaza Strip are part of the Palestinian response to the Israeli occupation.

Tension between Israel and the Palestinians has risen over the past week, ever since six Palestinians escaped from a maximum-security Israeli prison last Monday. Israeli forces have since recaptured four of the escapees.

Home to more than 2 million people, the Gaza Strip has been under a crippling Israeli siege since 2007, which has created a humanitarian crisis in the coastal enclave.
