Israel ‘worried’ about Vienna talks on Iran nuclear program

US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan will meet the head of Israel’s National Security Council, Eyal Holata, in Washington next week, to discuss Israel’s worries about the resumption of the Vienna talks on Iran’s nuclear program, Arab48.com reported on Monday.

Israel is apparently working hard to persuade the countries taking part in the talks to impose a time frame for the negotiations. This will be discussed by Holata and Sullivan.

According to Kan 11, Holata is seeking to know America’s intentions regarding Iran’s nuclear programme, as well as the strategy to be adopted in the new round of talks. The Israeli broadcaster revealed that Sullivan is currently visiting Saudi Arabia and the UAE to discuss the regional situation, including the latest developments in Yemen and the “joint Iranian threat”.

A senior Israeli government official was reported by Kan 11 as saying that, “The world powers strongly desire to reach a deal on Iran’s nuclear programme, but reaching a deal depends solely on Iran’s stance.”

The Israeli leadership is said to be planning to reinforce coordination with the US administration on the Iran nuclear issue. “Israel will not launch an intensified campaign against the Iran deal,” said an Israeli official quoted in Yedioth Ahronoth. The official spoke to journalists on condition of anonymity and noted that such a strategy had failed in the past.
