The Palestinian Health Ministry announced that Israeli soldiers fatally shot a Palestinian teenager during a clash in the occupied West Bank on Friday.
According to witnesses, the violence broke out during a demonstration against Israeli settlements near the city of Nablus.
The Israeli military described the protest as “a violent riot with hundreds of Palestinians”.
A military spokesperson said “the rioters burned tires, hurled rocks and launched fireworks towards (Israeli) troops who were present at the scene, endangering their lives.”
“The troops responded with riot dispersal means and fired toward the rioters.”
A Palestinian, 15, was shot and later succumbed to his wounds, the Palestinian Health Ministry said.
During last month’s fighting over the Palestinian-run Gaza Strip, unrest also flared in the West Bank, and tensions have remained high since.
