Italy reports 32,573 coronavirus cases on Monday, 119 deaths

The health ministry in Italy reported 32,573 COVID-19-related cases on Monday, up from 60,415 the day before, while the number of deaths increased to 119 from 93.

Since the outbreak of COVID-19 in February 2020, Italy has recorded 157,904 deaths, the second-highest toll in Europe after the United Kingdom and the eighth highest in the world. To date, the country has reported 13.89 million cases.

The number of COVID-19 patients admitted to hospitals, excluding those in intensive care, increased to 8,728 on Monday, up from 8,430 the day before.

There were 31 new intensive care unit admissions, up from 29 on Sunday. The total number of intensive care patients dropped from 467 to 463.

Some 218,216 tests for COVID-19 were carried out in the past day, compared with a previous 370,466, the health ministry said.
