Japan detects first monkeypox case

Japan’s first case of monkeypox virus was discovered in Tokyo on Monday, according to the governor of the capital.

According to Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike, the infected person is a guy in his 30s who recently returned from Europe and is presently hospitalized.

The World Health Organization declared a global health emergency over the quickly growing monkeypox outbreak on Saturday.

This year, there have been over 16,000 monkeypox cases in over 75 countries, including five deaths in Africa.

The virus spreads through close contact and causes flu-like symptoms as well as pus-filled skin lesions.
