After speaking by phone with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida announced that Japan would join the international sanctions against Russia’s central bank by limiting transactions.

Kishida also stated that, as a result of Belarus’ “clear involvement in the invasion” of Ukraine, Japan will impose penalties on persons and organizations in Belarus, including President Alexander Lukashenko, as well as restrict exports.
