Kuwait and Iran exchange fugitive citizens wanted for financial crimes

Kuwait and Iran have agreed upon an exchange of citizens wanted by their respective authorities, Al-Rai reported yesterday. Both individuals are accused of committing financial crimes.

According to Iran’s ambassador to Kuwait, Mohammad Irani, the swap apparently took place a week ago. An engineer accused of seizing $39.8 million (12 million dinars) was returned to Kuwait. In return, Kuwait extradited an Iranian citizen wanted by Interpol in connection with a fraud case in her native country.

The ambassador praised the bilateral relations between the two countries. Iran and Kuwait have been implementing an extradition agreement since 2004. This allows Iranian prisoners in Kuwait and Kuwaiti inmates in Iran to return to their respective countries and complete their prison terms in their own countries.
