The Lithuanian government said on Wednesday that two of the nation’s six border crossing points with Belarus will be closed due to “geopolitical circumstances,” only weeks after Russian Wagner Group mercenaries sought asylum in the country.

Lithuania announced the closure of two rural crossing points that were not utilized by commercial vehicles as of Friday.

Following the incarceration of a journalist of Polish descent and the expulsion of Polish officials, neighboring Poland has blocked all but one border crossing point with Belarus this year.

Poland announced plans last week to move 10,000 additional troops to the Belarus border to support existing guards.
