Mexico: Dozen killed as armed group opens fire on holiday party

According to Mexican authorities cited by Reuters, a tragic incident occurred early Sunday morning (Dec 17) at a holiday party in Mexico, where a group of individuals opened fire, resulting in the death of twelve people. The attack took place in the central state of Guanajuato during a posada, a traditional Mexican celebration observed in the days preceding Christmas, as reported by local media
The state’s attorney general’s office took to social media platform X to announce the tragic news, saying at least 12 people have been killed.

Guanajuato is home to a significant number of automotive and aeronautics factories; however, the state has emerged as one of the most violent ones in recent months.
The persistent tensions between different powerful drug cartels have further intensified the instability in the state.
