President Filipe Nyusi of Mozambique removed Prime Minister Carlos Agostinho do Rosário on Thursday, according to a presidential statement, in what seemed to be a dramatic government upheaval following the dismissal of six ministers on Wednesday.
The Portuguese-language announcement did not specify a cause for the premier’s departure, nor did it announce any new appointments or indicate when the vacant positions would be filled.
Lidia Cardoso, the Deputy Minister of Health, was also fired, according to the announcement.
Nyusi removes six ministers on Wednesday, including the finance and economics ministries, as well as the natural resources and energy minister.
