Dozens of electric buses will be removed from Paris streets temporarily “as a precaution” after two of the vehicles caught fire, according to RATP, the city’s public transportation provider.
Following a second fire on Friday morning, in which no one was injured, “RATP has decided to cease usage of 149 electric buses” of the manufacturer Bollore’s Bluebus 5SE type, according to the state-owned corporation.
On April 4, a first bus caught fire on downtown Paris’s affluent Boulevard Saint-Germain, destroying the vehicle but causing no casualties.
Bollore’s 12-metre (39-foot) electric buses, branded with the slogan “100% electric vehicle,” are a common sight on the streets of Paris.
