Protesters opposed to COVID measures clash with police in Paris

Local television claimed that teargas was shot by anti-riot police in central Paris on Saturday as fights erupted during rallies against COVID-19 restrictions and vaccination.

After protestors pulled over a police motorcycle carrying several policemen, television images showed police attempting to push back demonstrators near the capital’s Gare Saint-Lazare railway station.

Demonstrators opposing anti-virus measures hoisted placards reading “Stop the tyranny” at another rally organized by far-right politicians in west Paris.

Protests were planned in towns across France, including Marseille, Montpellier, Nantes, and Toulouse.

This weekend, French lawmakers will vote on a plan presented by the government to establish a health pass and mandate immunization for health personnel.
