Following his detention, Qatar’s Emir has appointed a new Minister of Finance, according to a Royal statement released on Thursday.

According to the Amiri order, “Ali Sharif Al-Emadi, Minister of Finance, is relieved of his post, and Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari, Minister of Trade and Industry, in addition to his duties, is to be entrusted with the duties of the Minister of Finance.”

According to a statement carried by the official state news agency, the public prosecutor said Emadi was being questioned earlier about charges of embezzlement, misuse of authority, and crimes linked to the public sector. An investigation has begun.
