Russia could resume business with Germany if it ends Ukraine war, says Germany’s Scholz

Olaf Scholz, the chancellor of Germany, stated on Monday that if Russia terminated its conflict in Ukraine, commercial ties between the two countries might once again be established.

Scholz has stated in past remarks that until Moscow withdrew its forces from Ukraine and secured a peace agreement with Kyiv, the West will not lift sanctions placed on Moscow in retaliation for its invasion of that country.

In response to western sanctions against Russia that have halted bilateral commerce and investment, he told the German Committee on Eastern European Economic Relations, “At the moment the relations we have are being decreased, reduced, reduced.”

“But a Russia that ends the war,” Scholz said, should be given a chance for renewed economic cooperation. “But that is not now.”
