Russia, Turkey to discuss developments in Syria, Libya, and Afghanistan

During their meeting tomorrow, Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, will discuss the most prominent developments in Syria, Afghanistan, and Libya,  Kremlin spokesman announced yesterday.

Dmitry Peskov said preparations for the meeting were “underway,” adding that it would be held in the Russian city of Sochi.

“Putin and Erdogan always have a lot to discuss, first of all, the latest developments in Syria and Afghanistan will be presented,” Peskov told reporters. “Every time, the presidents have things to discuss,” he reiterated.

The official pointed out that the two had “a lot in common”, including “bilateral relations, joint economic projects, trade, and economic ties.”

Erdogan said earlier that he was planning to discuss the “Syrian issue with Putin in order to come to an important solution.”

The two leaders last met in March 2020 in Moscow.

Though they back opposing sides in the Syrian conflict, with Russia backing the regime of President Bashar Al-Assad, Ankara and Moscow have been forced to work together to ensure the success of a ceasefire in the north of the war-torn country.
