Russia’s top legislator warned on Friday that Ukraine was practically mortgaging itself to the US by attempting to access billions of dollars in arms loans suggested by US President Joe Biden.
Biden asked Congress for $33 billion to help Ukraine on Thursday, a huge increase in US money for the conflict with Russia, and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko appealed with legislators to approve the request quickly.
Vyacheslav Volodin, the speaker of Russia’s lower house who frequently expresses Kremlin views, accused the US of profiting from the war while indebting future generations of Ukrainians.
