Saudi Arabia ends Thailand travel ban for citizens

According to the official Saudi Press agency, the Kingdom’s General Directorate of Passports, Saudi Arabia has lifted a travel prohibition for nationals wishing to visit Thailand.

According to the SPA report, the governing body also declared that persons with Thai passports will be granted admission into the Kingdom.

Following a formal meeting between Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on January 25, the two countries decided to fully restore diplomatic ties and plan to exchange ambassadors.

It was the first official visit between the two countries in more than 30 years.

After a diplomatic spat over the theft of roughly $20 million in jewels by a Thai janitor working in the palace of a Saudi prince in 1989, known as the “Blue Diamond Affair,” Saudi Arabia downgraded its relations with Bangkok.
