Saudi Arabia Records over 1,000 COVID-19 Infections for 1st Time since August

Saudi Arabia recorded over 1,000 new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, marking the highest daily toll since August 2020, the Health Ministry reported Tuesday.

The ministry announced 1,070 new coronavirus cases, 940 recoveries and 12 deaths on Tuesday.

Riyadh reported the highest number of cases at (483), followed by Makkah (209), then the Eastern Province (157).

The total number of cases has amounted to 407,010, including 392,538 recoveries, while the death toll has risen to 6,846.

The Ministry stressed the importance of adhering to health preventive measures and avoiding social events.

It affirmed that the vaccines are safe and effective, adding that competent authorities ensure they adopt the highest standards of safety and security.

The Interior Ministry warned on Monday from the surge in the COVID-19 infection rate in the Kingdom.

It said it would re-impose preventative measures like lockdowns and closing off cities and neighborhoods if the public continues to ignore rules.

Saudi Arabia continues to expand its vaccine drive. It has so far administered more than 7.3 million COVID-19 vaccine doses, according to a Health Ministry statement.

The ministry noted that 55 percent of the newly confirmed cases are females, adding that people should comply with wearing a mask, social distancing and getting vaccinated to help curb the spread of the virus.
