Saudi Arabia strongly condemns tearing of Holy Quran in Netherlands

The Saudi Foreign Ministry expressed on Tuesday the Kingdom’s strong condemnation of the tearing a copy of the Holy Quran by a Dutch extremist in The Hague, Netherlands.

The ministry said such disgraceful acts provoke the feelings of Muslims around the world.

The ministry reiterated the Kingdom’s firm position on the importance of spreading the values of dialogue, tolerance and coexistence, and rejecting hatred and extremism.

The Muslim World League (MWL) also condemned the “provocative and heinous” tearing of a copy of the Quran.

In a statement, MWL Secretary General of MWL Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Isa warned against such practices of hate that only serve extremist agendas.

He underscored the importance of realizing the danger of such acts and the |need for solidarity to firmly confront them.”

He added that such “barbaric” acts, committed under the pretext of freedom of expression, “will only intensify Muslims’ belief in their religion and their values that always call for peace and coexistence”

The secretariat general of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) also condemned the tearing of the Quran, saying such acts are an example of hatred and Islamophobia that incites violence and harms religions.

It expressed its alarm at the “ongoing acts of religious intolerance and hatred against Muslims in several regions across the globe”, calling on concerned governments to take the necessary measures to contain them.

The OIC stressed the importance of “encouraging dialogue, understanding and cooperation between religions, cultures and civilizations and shunning hatred and extremism to achieve world peace.”
