On the eve of the Muslim festival of Eid al-Fitr, a bomb exploded in a passenger vehicle in Kabul on Saturday, killing at least one person, officials said. It was the second explosion in the Afghan capital in two days, raising security fears.
According to the Islamic State’s Telegram channel, the organization claimed credit for the attack on Saturday.
Concerns over security have escalated across Afghanistan as the nation prepares to celebrate Eid al-Fitr under Taliban authority for the first time in more than 20 years, after the organization was deposed following a US war in 2001.
The Taliban stated on Saturday that Eid would be celebrated the next day, prompting loud rounds of celebratory gunfire in Kabul’s streets late Saturday night.
